Toyota has been selling Maruti badged cars in India for some time now along with the Glanza, Urban Cruiser and the upcoming Belta. It has been successful to a large extent with these cars so now it will be expanding its range. Japanese automaker Toyota will launch another new MPV Rumion this year in 2022. This new MPV Rumion is the result of a partnership between Toyota and Maruti Suzuki, which is based on the Maruti Ertiga car. The Toyota Rumion looks very similar to the Maruti Ertiga sold in India. The company has introduced this car in the South African market. This is Toyota’s third model based on Maruti Suzuki cars.
Toyota Rumion: Exterior and Interior Styling
The Toyota Rumion and the Maruti Ertiga are different when it comes to styling. Toyota has made minor changes to the front grille.
All the body panels, headlamps, taillamps, and alloy wheels remain the same for both vehicles. Inside the cabin, the Rumian gets the same dashboard and infotainment system as the Ertiga. Unlike the Ertiga, the Toyota Rumion comes with all-black interior styling. Toyota is expected to offer a seven-inch infotainment touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an analogue instrument cluster, a flat-bottom multifunctional steering wheel and automatic air conditioning.
Safety features include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, a rear parking camera, and reverse parking sensors. The Rumion is also available in an 8-seater seating layout. Currently, the Rumion is sold in the South African market in three different variants – S, SX and TX.
Toyota Rumion: Engine and Transmission
Under the hood, the Rumion gets the same 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine that powers the Ertiga. The gasoline-powered engine can produce 105hp and 138Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission and a four-speed automatic transmission.
Which cars will compete with the Toyota Rumion
Equipped with better looks and powerful features, Toyota’s Rumian will compete with the popular cars of other companies in India and since this car is a re-badged version of Maruti Suzuki’s popular car, it is likely to get the love of the people. Toyota Rumion will compete with other cars including Mahindra Marazzo and Kia Seltos.
