After a long gap, a new Honda car built from the ground up is finally hitting the Indian market. The Japanese carmaker has teased its upcoming compact SUV for India, which will take on established models like the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. The SUV, which hasn’t got a name yet, is set to be unveiled in the summer of 2023, so you can expect it to break cover around April or May.
Honda Compact SUV Engine and Transmission
It could come with the 1.5-litre petrol engine present in the Honda City. This unit churns out 126PS and 253Nm and is mated to a six-speed manual transmission or an optional seven-step CVT. Honda could also offer it with a hybrid setup like the City Hybrid which comes with the same 1.5-litre petrol engine and 0.7kWh battery pack only mated to an e-CVT.

The new Honda SUV draws heavy inspiration from international models like the HR-V and CR-V. The upright nose gets a City-like slatted grille with a chrome bar connecting the two LED headlights. It gets a chunky front bumper with LED fog lamps and a front skid plate. The flared wheel arches are nicely filled up by the large alloys while the body cladding adds to the roughness. It also gets a nice and prominent shoulder line along with a hump on the rear fender, which gives the SUV a lot of character. Lastly, the model also gets roof rails, which add to the SUV quotient.

The compact SUV from Honda is expected to be a premium offering with niceties like a large touchscreen display, semi-digital driver’s display, automatic climate control, electric sunroof, wireless phone charging and ventilated front seats.

In terms of passenger safety, it could be equipped with six airbags, ABD with EBD, tire pressure monitoring system (TMPS), 360-degree camera and advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) features like lane-keep assist, and blind. Spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control.
Honda Compact SUV Rivals
The Honda SUV will rival the likes of compact SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Haider, Volkswagen Tigun, Skoda Kushaq, Nissan Kicks and the MG Astor. If you want a robust SUV option, then you can look at the Mahindra Scorpio Classic.
