Despite being the month of Diwali, carmakers saw a slight drop in demand in October 2022. Now, the list of the best selling models of the month has been revealed and the top-ranked car has registered sales of over 20,000 units.
These were the 20 most popular cars in October 2022:
Maruti’s entry-level hatchback, Alto retained its position as the best-selling car in India last month. It was the only car on the list to cross the 20,000 unit-sales mark. Note that the figures include sales of both the Alto 800 and the new Alto K10.
Another sought-after model in the list is the Maruti Wagon R with around 18,000 unit-sales. While its sales have improved significantly over the last year, its monthly-on-month (MoM) sales figure has come down by 2,000-odd units.
Maruti Swift and Baleno were leading with their respective sales in the region of 17,000 units. However, the MOM numbers of the Baleno dropped between the two while the sales of the Swift increased as compared to September 2022.
With around 13,800 unit-sales, Tata Nexon stood at the fifth position. Its sales were about 1,000 units less than the September figure, but it remains the best-selling SUV in the country. These figures include sales of both the ICE and EV iterations of Nexon.
Maruti Dzire was the only sedan to feature in this list with total sales of over 12,300 units. It sold around 3,000 more units in October as compared to September.
Hyundai Creta, Tata Punch and Maruti Ertiga were the next three on the list with sales of over 10,000 units. While the year-on-year (YoY) figures for both Creta and Punch improved, it was only Ertiga’s MoM numbers that rose among the three.
There was another set of three models which had very close to 10,000 units monthly sales, namely Maruti Brezza, Kia Seltos and Hyundai Venue. However, all three saw a decline in their MoM figures.
In terms of models with 8,000 to 9,000 unit-sales in October, there were four: Maruti Eeco, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Mahindra Bolero and even Maruti Grand Vitara. This was only the second month that the Maruti premium compact SUV was on sale.
The Hyundai i20, Kia Sonet, Mahindra Scorpio and Tata Tiago all had one thing in common in October: their overall sales numbers fell between 7,000 and 8,000 units. The hatchbacks saw an increase in MoM but a drop of 2,000 units for the SUVs. Note that the sales numbers of the Scorpio are indicative of both the Scorpio Classic and the Scorpio N.
