South Korean automaker Hyundai sells its only electric SUV Kona in the Indian market. The new Hyundai Ionic 5 coming as an electric crossover car will not have to wait much anymore. After being officially listed on the website in May, now its testing has started. The Ionic has been spotted testing near Hyundai’s plant in Chennai. Due to this speculations are being made that Ionic-5 can be launched this year.

Hyundai IONIQ 5 Battery, Electric Motor and Range

Globally, Hyundai has introduced the Ioniq 5 with two battery pack options: 58kWh and 72.6kWh, with a range of 384km and 481km respectively. It also gets four powertrain options: a 325PS AWD, a 235PS AWD, a 229PS 2WD and a 170PS 2WD. A 350kW DC charger can juice up both of the EV’s battery options from 0 to 80 per cent in less than 18 minutes. The smaller 50kW DC charger can recharge the smaller battery in 43.5 minutes and the larger 72.6kWh battery pack in 56.6 minutes.

Hyundai IONIQ 5 Exterior

It looks quite different from any other Hyundai model currently on sale. The exterior of this EV is quite different from other Hyundai cars. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV features sharp cuts and lines. It nicely complements the bold and sporty alloy wheels and funky yet sleek LED lights. It was first seen at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show and looks very futuristic. Also, ‘Parametric Pixels’ technology has been used in it, which is the smallest unit of digital imaging. Hyundai will implement this design element in its future all-electric vehicles under the Ioniq brand.

Hyundai IONIQ 5 Interior

The interior of the Ioniq 5 EV is very clean, elegant and durable as most of it is made of recycled plastic. There is enough space inside it. On the inside, the dashboard is dominated by twin 12-inch screens that feature Hyundai’s BlueLink connected-car technology as well as flexible seats that slide and recline. Rear seat passengers can benefit from fast wireless phone charging housed in the console. It gets a sliding centre console, which can be moved up to 140 mm. There are also some premium touches like a leather steering wheel.

Hyundai IONIQ 5 Features

Its list of features includes integrated dual 12.3-inch infotainment and driver displays, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control and a heads-up display. Passenger safety is ensured by seven airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), an advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) and a 360-degree camera.
