The Concept EV9 is one of the major attractions at Kia’s stall at Auto Expo 2023. Based on the same e-GMP platform as the EV6, it is a three-row SUV that offers immense presence owing to its impressive design.
According to the WLTP test cycle, the EV9 is powered by a 100 kWh battery pack that provides a range of up to 500 km (311 mi) on a single charge. The battery pack can be charged up to 80% in just 18 minutes using the fast charging technology. The vehicle comes with a solar panel integrated into the roof, which can generate up to 3.6 kW of power to help charge the battery.

The EV9 Tiger previews Kia’s futuristic design language for its large SUV with an electrified version of the front fascia. The headlamps are placed in a vertical stack at each end of the closed panel grille that can form a cloud-like pattern. Its prominent LED light signature from the DRLs is on the outer edge of the front profile. The concept EV9 is impressively boxy in shape but the smooth surfaces and cameras in place of the ORVMs help improve its aerodynamic profile. The concept rides on large 22-inch wheels, which also feature a special aero-optimized design.

At the rear, Kia’s large electric SUV concept features a relatively conventional design with large seamless surfaces, a chunky bumper and a prominent skid plate design for added rugged appeal. Unlike most EVs and concepts, the taillights do not span the width of the tailgate, instead being placed on the vertical outer edges of the rear profile.

The Concept EV9 has a spacious cabin thanks to the large glass surface area in terms of window lines and the panoramic sunroof. Its dashboard has a relatively minimalist design and features a digital instrument cluster and a curved 27-inch ultrawide display that integrates the infotainment system. The flat floor allows for a highly configurable seating layout, with each seat able to swivel completely the other way.
The EV9 comes with an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) that includes features like lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking. The vehicle also has a Level 4 autonomous driving capability, meaning it can drive itself in most situations, with the driver only needing to take over in certain situations.
It is not yet confirmed when a production version of the EV9 will be available, but the concept version displays several promising features such as a long-range battery, fast charging, solar power and advanced driver assistance systems. As Kia continues to develop their electric vehicle technology, we can expect to see more of these features in its future EV models.
