The country’s leading car company Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) may soon launch its new SUV ‘Jimny’ in India. We are saying this because this SUV has been spotted testing in the 5-door body style for the first time in India. In such a situation, it is expected that the company will unveil this SUV at the Auto Expo 2023 to be held in January. It is expected that the Maruti Suzuki Jimny could be introduced in the new 5-door avatar for the first time in India. The compact car is known for its ability to navigate difficult terrains with ease.
Maruti Jimny Engine and Transmission
Maruti Suzuki is expected to introduce the India-spec Jimny with the Grand Vitara’s 1.5-litre mild-hybrid engine (103PS and 137Nm). Transmission options could include a 5-speed manual or a six-speed automatic with both options paired with a manually operated transfer case for four-wheel drive use. With this, options of a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox can be given. While a front-wheel drive version could also be offered.
Maruti Jimny Exterior
The spotted model was finished in Jimny’s trademark green shade which is usually seen in the three-door avatar globally. It is made small in size but with attractive specifications. Its front has been updated like the newly designed bonnet, round shape headlamp, and spare wheel on the tailgate. In the pictures, the first thing that catches your attention is the long wheelbase, followed by the two side doors, rear quarter glass panels and flared wheel arches. That said, the long-wheelbase Jimny may still fall into the sub-four-meter category, so don’t expect it to have a huge footprint. At the rear, it gets a boot-mounted spare wheel and a ‘Jimny’ badge. The new Maruti Jimny will be offered as a lifestyle off-road SUV, which is said to measure 3850 mm in length, 1645 mm in width and 1730 mm in height.
Maruti Jimny Interior
Maruti Suzuki will offer the India-spec five-door Jimny with an all-black cabin theme with silver accents. It will come with a Baleno-like steering wheel and seven-inch and nine-inch touchscreen display options.
Maruti Jimny Features
Its safety features list could include six airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors. The Jimny could include seven-inch and nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system options (from the new Baleno and Brezza) with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control and automatic climate control.
Maruti Jimny Rivals
The Maruti Jimny will compete directly with the five-door versions of the Mahindra Thar and the second-generation Force Gurkha.
Maruti Jimny Price
The longer Jimny will be showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo while its launch is expected soon. We believe Maruti Suzuki may offer it with a starting price of Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
