The demand for electric cars is increasing very fast in the Indian market. In such a situation, car manufacturers are constantly emphasizing on manufacturing new electric cars. Meanwhile, domestic automobile company Tata Motors launched India’s most affordable electric car Tata Tiago EV on 28 September. The Tiago EV is also the company’s third electric car, apart from this it will be India’s first car in the market after the electric hatchback SUV and the electric sedan. The Tiago is the only hatchback car in the country that comes in electric variants apart from petrol and CNG. Earlier, Tata Motors launched the CNG version of the Tiago EV. Tata offers the Tiago EV in four trims: XE, XT, XZ+ and XZ+ Lux. It will join Tata’s EV fleet, which also includes the Nexon EV, Nexon EV Max and Tigor EV.

Battery pack, range and charging

Tata Motors has offered the Tiago EV with two battery pack options: 19.2kWh and 24kWh battery paired with an electric motor making 61PS/110Nm and 75PS/114Nm respectively. The former gets a range of 250km and the latter 315km. It comes with four charging options: a 15A socket charger, a 3.3 kW AC charger, a 7.2kW AC charger, and a DC fast charger.

The charging periods of both the batteries are as follows:

  • 15A socket charger: 8.7 hours (24kWh), 6.9 hours (19.2kWh)
  • 3.3kW AC charger: 6.4 hours (24kWh), 5.1 hours (19.2kWh)
  • 7.2kW AC charger: 3.6 hours (24kWh), 2.6 hours (19.2kWh)
  • DC Fast Charger: 10-80% in 57 minutes for both

Tata Tiago EV Exterior

The Tiago EV is based on the conventional fuel Tiago, which retains the dimensions of the Tiago. The front grille and fog lamps now get a blue accent, indicating that it is an electric version of the Tiago. The Tiago EV also gets exclusive styling alloy wheels to further differentiate the electric hatchback. Also, is it a bit different from the traditional Tiago? It also gets bespoke tri-tone wheel caps and is available in at least five color options – Teal Blue, Daytona Grey, Pristine White, Midnight Plum and Tropical Mist.

Tata has enhanced the interiors of the Tiago EV with more premium materials and features. The traditional Tiago fabric upholstery has been replaced with leatherette upholstery on the EV. The steering wheel has also been updated to a flat bottom steering wheel which also includes controls for cruise control, a feature that is available only on the electric variant of the Tiago. Apart from cruise control, the Tiago EV gets automatic AC as standard across the range. Except for the XE, all variants get a 7-inch Harman touchscreen infotainment system and a four-speaker sound system.
