The demand for electric cars is increasing very fast in the Indian market. In such a situation, car manufacturers are constantly emphasizing on manufacturing new electric cars. Meanwhile, domestic automobile company Tata Motors launched India’s most affordable electric car Tata Tiago EV on 28 September. The Tiago EV is also the company’s third electric car, apart from this it will be India’s first car in the market after the electric hatchback SUV and the electric sedan. The Tiago is the only hatchback car in the country that comes in electric variants apart from petrol and CNG. Earlier, Tata Motors launched the CNG version of the Tiago EV. Tata offers the Tiago EV in four trims: XE, XT, XZ+ and XZ+ Lux. It will join Tata’s EV fleet, which also includes the Nexon EV, Nexon EV Max and Tigor EV.
Battery pack, range and charging
Tata Motors has offered the Tiago EV with two battery pack options: 19.2kWh and 24kWh battery paired with an electric motor making 61PS/110Nm and 75PS/114Nm respectively. The former gets a range of 250km and the latter 315km. It comes with four charging options: a 15A socket charger, a 3.3 kW AC charger, a 7.2kW AC charger, and a DC fast charger.
The charging periods of both the batteries are as follows:
- 15A socket charger: 8.7 hours (24kWh), 6.9 hours (19.2kWh)
- 3.3kW AC charger: 6.4 hours (24kWh), 5.1 hours (19.2kWh)
- 7.2kW AC charger: 3.6 hours (24kWh), 2.6 hours (19.2kWh)
- DC Fast Charger: 10-80% in 57 minutes for both
Tata Tiago EV Exterior
The Tiago EV is based on the conventional fuel Tiago, which retains the dimensions of the Tiago. The front grille and fog lamps now get a blue accent, indicating that it is an electric version of the Tiago. The Tiago EV also gets exclusive styling alloy wheels to further differentiate the electric hatchback. Also, is it a bit different from the traditional Tiago? It also gets bespoke tri-tone wheel caps and is available in at least five color options – Teal Blue, Daytona Grey, Pristine White, Midnight Plum and Tropical Mist.


Tata Tiago EV Interior
Tata has enhanced the interiors of the Tiago EV with more premium materials and features. The traditional Tiago fabric upholstery has been replaced with leatherette upholstery on the EV. The steering wheel has also been updated to a flat bottom steering wheel which also includes controls for cruise control, a feature that is available only on the electric variant of the Tiago. Apart from cruise control, the Tiago EV gets automatic AC as standard across the range. Except for the XE, all variants get a 7-inch Harman touchscreen infotainment system and a four-speaker sound system. The XZ+ variant gets an additional four tweeters, which makes the Tiago EV the best option for those who enjoy music while driving.


Tata Tiago EV Features
Features of the Tata electric hatchback include a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, four-speaker Harman sound system, auto AC, foldable ORVMs, rain sensing wipers and steering-mounted controls. Features like cruise control and regenerative braking are also on offer in the Tata Tiago EV. Its safety kit includes dual front airbags, cornering brake control, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), ABS with EBD and a rearview camera.

The upcoming entry-level EV won’t face any direct competition for the time being, but it will serve as an affordable alternative to the Citroen C3 EV.
Tata Tiago EV Price
Tata Tiago EV price starts from Rs. 8.49 lakh and goes up to Rs. 11.79 lakhs. The Tata Tiago EV is offered in 7 variants – the base model of the Tiago EV is XE Base and the top variant Tata Tiago EV XZ Plus Tech Lux Fast Charge which comes at a price tag of Rs. 11.79 lakhs.
