While most big-name mass-market brands are set to introduce affordable EVs around 2025, there are some who want to get started. As of now, the best that a consumer can expect from an entry-level EV is a base price of less than Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) and a claimed range of over 200 km. Here are three models coming out in 2023 that will meet those criteria.
Tata Tiago EV

The Tiago EV is the third electric car from the Tata company. Tata Tiago is the only car that comes in electric variants apart from petrol and CNG. It gets a choice of two battery sizes – 19.2kWh and 24kWh, with the first promising a range of 250km and the latter claiming 315km. The Tiago EV also gets exclusive styling alloy wheels on the electric hatchback. The interiors of the Tiago EV have been enhanced with more premium materials and features. The Tiago fabric upholstery has been replaced with leather upholstery on the EV. The electric hatchback gets a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a four-speaker Harman sound system, auto AC, foldable ORVMs, rain-sensing wipers and steering-mounted controls. Its safety package includes ABS with EBD, cornering brake control, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), dual front airbags and rear view camera.
Tata Tiago EV range starts from Rs 8.49 lakh to Rs 11.79 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom pan-India).
MG Air EV

The electric car MG Air EV has been specially designed for heavy traffic and congested roads. It has already been spotted testing on our roads. The MG Air EV will be given two battery packs: 17.3kWh and 26.7kWh. The 17.3kWh battery pack has a claimed range of 200 km and the 26.7kWh battery has a claimed range of 300 km. The interiors of the MG EV have a dual-tone set-up. The doors of the Air EV are slightly longer as compared to other GSEV cars. The MG Air EV will feature a 10.25-inch digital floating display and auto AC, connected car tech, instrument cluster and steering-mounted controls. Its safety kit will include Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ABS with EBD, dual front airbags and rear parking camera.
The starting price of the compact MG Air EV is expected to be Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
Citroen C3 EV

Citroen is the only other confirmed entry-level EV to be launched here in 2023. It is said to be based on the C3 hatchback. The C3 EV might get a 50kWh battery pack along with an electric motor that should be capable of producing 136PS and 260Nm. It has a WLTP-claimed range of 362km. The electric hatchback from Citroen is expected to get a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, electronically adjustable ORVMs, a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, a rear defogger and cruise control. Safety features include Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), ABS with EBD, dual front airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), rear parking sensors and rear-view camera.
Citroen may start the price of its electric hatchback from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
