The Mercedes EQS will be the second all-electric offering from Mercedes-Benz in India. Preparations are being made to launch the Mercedes EQS EV in the last quarter of the year 2022. Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that it will locally assemble its upcoming EQS luxury EV sedan at its manufacturing plant in Chakan, Maharashtra. Notably, the Mercedes EQS will be the first luxury electric car in the country to be produced locally. Germany’s leading automaker aims to keep its price low.

Mercedes-Benz EQS Battery, Charging, and Range

Mercedes offers the global-spec EQS with a 107.8kWh battery pack which is good for a range of up to 770km in the most efficient variant. It was offered in two trims, EQS 580 (AWD) and EQS 450+ (RWD), both of which are expected to be offered in India. The EQS 450+ has an electric motor on the rear axle that produces 333PS/568Nm, while the EQS 580 uses a second motor on the front axle for a combined output of 523PS/855Nm.

In terms of charging time, the 11kW Wallbox charger can charge the battery pack in 12 hours. A 7kW home charger – potentially offered for free to buyers – would take 15 hours and 30 minutes to do. The EQS is also capable of fast charging of up to 200kW, which can recharge its battery in just 31 minutes.

Mercedes-Benz EQS design

Talking about the design of the Mercedes-Benz EQS, this SUV looks like a Mercedes-EQ. Even its styling elements remain the same. Upfront, the Mercedes-Benz EQS gets a blacked-out grille, which is a closed unit with angular LED headlamps on the sides. The headlamps are equipped with a horizontal LED light bar. It gets a sloping silhouette, multi-spoke alloy wheels, flush door handles and an optional panoramic sunroof. At the rear, the EQS electric SUV gets LED taillights, which are connected to an LED strip. It measures 5,125 mm in length, 1,959 mm in width and 1,718 mm in height. Like the EQS sedan, it also gets 3,210mm.

Mercedes-Benz EQS interior

Its new futuristic exterior rises above its predecessors, creating a unique outlook that is easily recognizable. This design complements its internal functions to provide continuous auditory feedback to the driver. The new Hyper Screen spans across the dash and includes the driver’s instrument cluster, centre display and front passenger area, leaving a lasting impression on passengers in the cockpit of the aeroplane. The Hyper Screen can display the ambient background when not in use, complimenting the lighting throughout the cabin.

Mercedes-Benz EQS Features

The Mercedes-Benz EQS sports a 55.5-inch MBUX hyper screen, three-screen single-piece unit. It comes with a 15-speaker 710W Burmester sound system, ambient lighting, multi-zone climate control and powered seats with massage function.

Mercedes-Benz EQS safety features

Talking about the safety features, it gets a central airbag, which is located between the driver and the front passenger. Along with this, front airbags are also available in it. There are also side airbags at the rear of the vehicle which provides safety to the rear passengers in the event of a side collision. The EV features a rigid passenger cell, special deformation zones and a state-of-the-art restraint system.

Mercedes-Benz EQS Rivals

It will not have a direct rival, but its closest rivals are the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-Tron GT.

Launch and price

Mercedes-Benz will launch the EQS in India in the last quarter of 2022. Talking about its price, it can start from Rs 1.75 crore (ex-showroom).
